Wallowa County Cultural Trust Coalition
The Wallowa County Cultural Trust Coalition was developed for the purpose of awarding State of Oregon grant money to organizations and individuals within Wallowa County whose endeavors promote culture within the county. Culture is the total of a community's arts, heritage, and humanities. It is the ideas, customs, and skills of a given people in a given period.
The Oregon Cultural Trust is unique in generously providing funding each year for our local Wallowa County Cultural Trust Coalition. No other state has a county-by-county network of cultural plans, specific to the assets and needs of each county.
The Oregon Cultural Trust states: The program intends to increase public participation in Oregon culture. By encouraging people to experience and appreciate local cultural resources, it fosters the development of a community cultural identity. With local autonomy, the coalitions involve the community in creating, sharing, documenting, celebrated and developing that cultural identity.
The Wallowa County Cultural Trust Coalition supports local cultural development, as each county and tribe shapes its specific cultural priorities. Coalition funds are allocated with a base of $6,000 and additional money based on population. The Wallowa County Cultural Trust Coalition makes state cultural funding available to many rural counties that, otherwise, would not have it.
The Wallowa County Cultural Trust Coalition grant applications are now available and due on October 31, 2019.
